Barcelona have lodged a complaint with UEFA over the officiating in their Champions League quarter-final first leg defeat at Atlético Madrid. The club said in a statement on Thursday that the referee's performance contravened the laws and directly affected the match.
Barça were beaten 0-2 on Wednesday. Pau Cubarsi was sent off in the 40th minute after a VAR review.
At 54 minutes, goalkeeper Juan Musso took a goal kick to defender Marc Pubill, positioned alongside him. Pubill then handled the ball before restarting play, believing the kick had not been taken, and no penalty was given.
The complaint requests an investigation, access to the referee's communications and, if applicable, an official acknowledgement of errors alongside appropriate measures.
It also cites what it describes as incomprehensible refereeing decisions in recent years, without examples, which have, in its view, seriously harmed the team and prevented it from competing on equal terms.
