Xavi Hernandez is considered one of the finest midfielders the game of football has ever produced.
Regarded as one of Spain’s most talented midfielders, Xavi has had the most decorated career a footballer can image, with multiple Champions League trophies and countless La Liga titles.
With 767 matches, Xavi is also the second highest appearance maker ever in Barcelona’s storied history, only behind Lionel Messi himself.
Xavi also managed managed Barcelona not too long ago, with striker Robert Lewandowski even crediting him for the club’s recent success.
However, despite his grandeur, Xavi has recently admitted that he is not better than Real Madrid legend, Zinedine Zidane.
Xavi was recently involved in an interesting little challenge posed to him by content creators Adrian Contreras and Unai Zaballa, in which he had to stay silent until he heard the name of a midfielder better than him, and the list, quite unsurprisingly, ran very long.
The influencers began by naming players of the current generation, including Arda Guler, Gavi, Kobbie Mainoo, Eduardo Camavinga, Pablo Barrios, Tijjani Reijnders. Needless to say, Xavi kept his mouth shut.
This was followed by a list of slightly more established names such as Martin Zubimendi, Federico Valverde, Enzo Fernandez, Alexis MacAllister, Jude Bellingham, Florian Wirtz and Pedri Gonzalez and Kevin De Bruyne.
Even then, Xavi remained silent, which is hardly surprising as the Spaniard is considered one of the greatest midfielders of the century.
That said, Xavi’s decision became increasingly more difficult as players from his era began entering the list, including Andrea Pirlo, Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard and Claude Makelele.
Xavi, though, remained silent, implying that he was better than Pirlo, Lampard, Gerrard and Makelele. That was until the influencers uttered the name, Zinedine Zidane.
The former Barcelona coach admitted that the Frenchman was better than him, though the view ironically won’t be shared by many Barcelona fans.
Interestingly, though, both Xavi and Zidane are currently free agents in the manager market and it will be interesting to see what fate has in store for the two midfield legends in the coming months.
