Two members of the first-team ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona have on Wednesday secured for themselves history on the continent.
The pair in question? Pau Cubarsí, and Robert Lewandowski.
Barcelona are of course currently locked in action on the continent, in a Champions League quarter-final first-leg meeting with Borussia Dortmund.
Both of the aforementioned Cubarsí and Lewandowski featured from the off in the fixture, at opposite ends of the pitch.
And it did not take long for the former to etch his name into the history books.
After defender Cubarsí’s goalbound effort was touched over the line by teammate Raphinha, it was revealed by statisticians Opta that:
‘Pau Cubarsí (18 years, 77 days) is the youngest defender in Champions League history to provide an assist, surpassing Vincent Kompany’s (18 years, 193 days) record of October 2004 with Anderlecht.’
And teammate Lewandowski did not take long in following suit with a record of his own…
This comes amid further confirmation on the part of Opta that, after netting his first goal of a brace on Wednesday:
‘Robert Lewandowski has become the first player in Champions League history to score 10 goals in a single season for three different teams: Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich and FC Barcelona.’
