Barcelona were dragged out of their comfort zone by Newcastle United but salvaged a draw at the death.
Garcia recovered from an early scare with a superb save from Anthony Elanga and dealt well with crosses. Araujo defended stoutly against Harvey Barnes, though he was caught out for the goal. Cubarsi and Gerard Martin read danger sharply with timely blocks and interceptions, while Cancelo struggled defensively but progressed play.
Pedri ran the show, calming the tempo and pinching possession repeatedly. Bernal toiled before going off, and Fermin López mopped up diligently despite a couple of missed openings. Lamine Yamal tired after the break and surrendered the ball in dangerous areas, yet showed composure to convert the late equaliser.
Raphinha endured a bruising night, twice hesitating when put through by Yamal and repeatedly ceding possession. Lewandowski laboured, failing to stick the ball or win battles, and missed his only half-chance before being withdrawn.
From the bench, Dani Olmo’s one sparkling intervention changed the contest, his sharp feet taking him past Malick Thiaw. Rashford searched for openings in limited service, while Casado could not impose himself and Ferran Torres slipped at his big moment. Debutant Xavi Espart impressed briefly with a box block on Joe Willock and a stoppage-time free-kick won in midfield.
