Barcelona prepare second offer following Julian Alvarez declarations

Barcelona are set to make a second offer for Julian Alvarez in the coming weeks, following his declarations that he is keen to leave Atletico Madrid this summer. Los Colchoneros meanwhile are reportedly considering reporting the Catalan side to FIFA.

There was some debate over whether Barcelona did make a formal offer for Alvarez, with Catalan sources assuring that a €100m offer was sent to Atletico, while Los Rojiblancos vehemently denied that was the case. Either way, a €100m offer was not accepted. It was said that Barcelona were waiting for a public gesture from Alvarez to force Atletico’s hand before they made another move. Now the Argentina forward has done just that, stating that a ‘transfer would be best for everyone involved‘.

Barcelona to make second Julian Alvarez offer

As reported by Cadena Cope, Barcelona are now considering when, not if, they will present a second offer for Alvarez. Their intention is to submit an offer worth somewhere in the region of €130m all in. The price tag of €150m has been bandied around for some time, and Real Madrid had a bid of that size rejected, but the Blaugreana do not intend to raise their offer to that level.

Atletico Madrid will avoid Barcelona sale at all costs

Nevertheless, they have some way to go to persuade Atletico Madrid even to do business with them, let alone agree a deal. It has been suggested that Los Colchoneros may attempt to sell Alvarez abroad, and Marca say that that option is much more appealing than Barcelona. Atletico feel that whatever offer Barca present, it is likely to be the worst on the table economically, in terms of the fan reaction and on the pitch, strengthening a direct rival. It seems Barcelona have their work cut out if they do want to sign Alvarez this summer.
