Barcelona President promises ‘more signings are coming’ after Anthony Gordon move

Barcelona’s interim president Rafa Yuste has promised that more signings are in the pipeline for the Catalan side this summer, following the addition of Anthony Gordon last week. The England international arrived on a €70m deal that could rise to €80m with variables.

Gordon’s signing was somewhat out of the blue, also because he plays most naturally on the left side, where in theory they have Raphinha, and spent so much on him. That is despite their priority being the number nine spot, their shortlist headed by Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez. Given their salary limit struggles in recent years, some have wondered if they will be able to register further signings.

‘More signings are coming’ – Barcelona President Yuste

Nevertheless, Yuste has told Sport during a speech to the club’s eldest members that more signings will arrive.

We’ve signed Gordon. And more are coming. Between now and the end of the season – I can’t reveal them today – you’ll hear about new additions that Deco and Bojan are making. We’ll be in the 1:1 rule,” he noted, referencing the salary limit regulations.

“La Masia is the heart of the team. It’s a source of pride to see eight Barca players playing for the Spanish national team and speaking Catalan. This team is well-established and will bring us much joy.”

Who else would Barcelona sign this summer?

It seems clear that their priority is a number nine target, with Alvarez and Chelsea’s Joao Pedro seemingly priorities. On top of that, the suggestion they could move for another central defenders still seems in the air, while they are open to moving for a full-back if Jules Kounde or Alejandro Balde are sold. It is not clear if Marcus Rashford will return after his loan from Manchester United, but if that is not the case, it seems likely Barcelona will want to sign another forward.
