Lamine Yamal has set extraordinarily high standards for himself, which is why his latest outing against Eintracht Frankfurt felt slightly underwhelming for many watching at the Spotify Camp Nou.

Even so, the 18-year-old once again left his mark on the match. Though substituted late in the game, he delivered the assist for Jules Kounde’s winning goal.

That single action also pushed him into elite territory within the Champions League.

What’s the story?

With the assist, as per Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona’s number 10 reached an astonishing 14 goal contributions in the competition for players of 18-year-old or under, split evenly between seven goals and seven assists.

This achievement makes him the most productive player in Champions League history since the tournament adopted its modern format in 1992.

The figure surpasses Kylian Mbappe’s long-standing record of 13 contributions, placing Yamal at the top of a list that features legendary names.

Names such as Raul (7), Jude Bellingham (6), Rodrygo (6), Theo Walcott (6), Warren Zaire-Emery (5), Cesc Fabregas (4), and Wayne Rooney (4) all trail behind the teenager.

What makes Yamal’s ascent even more remarkable is its consistency. Rather than exploding in a single season, he has delivered across three consecutive Champions League campaigns.

His seven goals span opponents like Monaco, Atalanta, Benfica and Inter, including the strike that was voted the best goal of the 2024/25 season.

This year, he added goals against Olympiacos and Club Brugge, maintaining his upward curve.

His creative numbers are equally impressive. He registered two assists during the 2023/24 campaign against Antwerp and PSG, followed by four in the 2024/25 season, supplying key passes against Bayern, Borussia Dortmund and Benfica.

Now, in the current edition, he has already provided two more – one against Club Brugge and the latest against Eintracht Frankfurt.
