Barcelona head into a defining UEFA Champions League night against Atletico Madrid with plenty at stake, but for Lamine Yamal, this fixture could carry even greater personal significance.

The 18-year-old sensation is once again on the brink of rewriting history, underlining just how rapidly he is becoming the face of Barcelona’s new era.

According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, Yamal is just one goal contribution away from breaking a remarkable Champions League record.

Yamal chasing a record

If he manages to score or provide an assist in the quarter-final first leg at the Metropolitano, he will become the youngest player ever to register 10 or more goal involvements in a single Champions League campaign.

That would see him surpass Erling Haaland, who previously set the benchmark during the 2019–20 season with Manchester City, achieving 10 goals and one assist at the age of 19 years and 212 days.

Yamal, by comparison, would reach the milestone at just 18 years and 269 days.

So far in this season’s European campaign, the Barcelona winger has delivered five goals and four assists in just eight appearances.

Despite missing two matches, one through injury against Newcastle United and another due to suspension versus Slavia Prague, his influence has been immense whenever he has stepped onto the pitch.

A solid UCL season

He was directly involved in Barcelona’s dominant 6-1 victory over Olympiacos, produced a goal and an assist in the thrilling 3-3 draw against Club Brugge, and played a key role in the 2-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt.

The teenager then delivered standout performances in emphatic wins over Copenhagen and Newcastle, registering both goals and assists, while also finding the net again in a 1-1 draw against the English side.

Interestingly, the only matches where he failed to contribute were against Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, games that ended in defeat for Barcelona.

Now, with Atletico Madrid standing in their way and a place in the semi-finals on the line, the stage is perfectly set for the teenager to make his mark again.
