The past few days have brought some disappointing news for FC Barcelona with regard to the futures of some of the talented youngsters coming through at La Masia.

Pedro ‘Dro’ Fernandez is on his way to PSG, while Andres Cuenca appears set to join Como 1907 in Italy. Quim Junyent is also considering a departure, with UD Almeria interested.

Guille Fernandez is also assessing his future amid his reduced role in the Barça Atletic setup and growing interest.

But there appears to be some good news on the horizon for the Blaugrana with one of their gifted young prospects – Juan Hernandez.

Renewal agreement finalised

Indeed, according to SPORT, Juan Hernendez has chosen to continue at Barcelona despite interest from several clubs that were pushing to secure his services.

The 18-year-old prospect, who can play both as an attacking midfielder and as a winger, was coming to the end of his contract this June and had the option to leave on a free transfer.

However, he has opted to renew with the Blaugrana, with an agreement in principle now in place.

It is an important decision in a context in which several reserve team players are uncertain about their futures. In contrast, Hernandez has placed his trust in the project and maintains the objective of making the step up to the first team.

Reward for renewal

As a reward for his strong performances with the reserve team and due to the absence of Dro, Barcelona have called Juan up to the first-team squad for the match against Slavia Prague.

It is a clear sign that the club count on him and that Hansi Flick is following his progress closely.

Hernandez joined Barcelona in 2020 from the youth ranks of Real Zaragoza. Since then, he has progressed steadily, gaining importance within the reserve team and standing out for his performances.

His development has seen him become one of the clear bets of Barcelona’s youth system, and in the coming days, the club will take the final steps to formalise and officially announce his renewal.
