La Liga’s two biggest clubs could be pipped to the post in the race for one of Spanish football’s standout up-and-coming talents.
That’s according to Diario Sport, citing Mail Online, who point towards Antonio Cordero (Antoñito) as the player in question.
Antoñito, for his part, is an 18-year-old striker, who has long been considered a potential star in the making.
The starlet was the subject of intense interest on the part of Barcelona last summer, with the Camp Nou hierarchy having gone as far as to table an offer for his services.
In the end, as much was rebuffed by Málaga, determined to secure what they felt was market value in return for their crown jewel.
Real Madrid, meanwhile, have also been credited with a keen interest in Antoñito, whose contract terms with Málaga are due to expire in the summer.
As alluded to above, though, if the latest word stemming from the media on Tuesday is anything to go by, then the two Clásico rivals could yet be in line to miss out on the attacker.
This comes with Newcastle United having now positioned themselves firmly in the race for his signature.
As per Sport:
‘Newcastle, owned by Saudi Arabia, have more than enough resources to present a succulent offer to the footballer which becomes unrejectable.’
Nevertheless, it is noted that, in an ideal world, Antoñito would favour staying in Spain to continue his development.
