FC Barcelona have been very aggressive in their pursuit of young talents with potential in the ongoing January transfer window.

The Blaugrana are all set to sign as many as four youth prospects with an eye on the future – with Hamza Abdelkarim, Juwensley Onstein, Patricio Pacifico, and Ajay Tavares expected to arrive imminently.

A deal for Ruud Nijstad of FC Twente is also in the works, while the Catalans have an eye on young midfielder Sergio Martinez of Racing Santander.

Barcelona submit offer for Martinez

Now, according to AS, there could be a Clasico war brewing for the signing of Sergio Martinez in the ongoing transfer window.

Although there are more interested clubs, Barcelona and Real Madrid have taken the lead and have already made an offer to Racing for the services of the 18-year-old midfielder.

Initially, the idea of both clubs is to take him on loan until 30 June to their respective reserve teams and to include an option to buy, although they are also open to the possibility of a permanent transfer for the Racing academy product.

Barcelona’s reserve side, Barça Atletic, coached by Juliano Belletti, are currently in the Segunda RFEF and are targeting promotion to the third division.

As such, there has been a strong push to strengthen the squad this month, especially with some departures also taking place.

Sergio, a creative midfielder who can play in a multitude of roles in the centre of the park, made a strong impression during pre-season and remained involved with the first team.

However, the Spain U-19 international gradually lost his prominence in recent weeks and has returned to playing for Racing’s reserve team, Rayo Cantabria.

With both Barcelona and Real Madrid pushing, it will be interesting to see where Sergio Martinez ends up.
