Barcelona’s strong representation at the 2026 World Cup has delivered a significant financial reward, with the Catalan club ranking second among all clubs for estimated payments linked to players participating in the tournament.

According to estimates from The Athletic, Barcelona are set to receive around $3.9 million through FIFA’s Club Benefits Program distribution system.

Only Manchester City, at an estimated $4.4 million, are expected to earn more.

What is FIFA’s CBP distribution system?

FIFA’s CBP is designed to compensate clubs for releasing their players for World Cup duty.

For the 2026 cycle, FIFA set aside a record $355 million, including $250 million for clubs whose players took part in the final tournament and $100 million connected to the qualifying campaign.

For the final tournament, payments are distributed based on the players a club released and the period of their participation, rather than simply how far one national team progressed.

That is why Barcelona’s deep representation at the World Cup translates into such a significant estimated return.

The payment is effectively FIFA recognising the role clubs play in developing, employing and releasing the players who make the tournament possible.

Barcelona among the biggest beneficiaries

The figures place Barça ahead of several of Europe’s wealthiest clubs.

Bayern Munich rank third with an estimated $3.4 million, followed by Arsenal on $3.3 million and Paris Saint-Germain on $3.2 million.

Barcelona’s position reflects the major presence their players had at the World Cup.

Eight members of the squad were part of Spain’s title-winning team, giving the club a particularly strong connection to the tournament’s final stages.

For the Blaugrana, the sporting achievement is naturally the biggest source of pride. Having so many players become world champions is a powerful reflection of the quality currently available to Hansi Flick.

A useful financial boost

The estimated $3.9 million payment is not transformative money for a club of Barcelona’s size, but every additional source of revenue remains valuable given the financial restrictions the club have faced in recent years.

It is also a welcome reward for clubs that release their players for international tournaments and accept the physical risks that come with those commitments.

Interestingly, Barcelona’s estimated payment is considerably higher than Real Madrid’s $2.6 million, with the Spanish capital club sitting ninth in the ranking.

Barça’s squad strength is reflected globally

Beyond the money, the figures underline Barcelona’s presence at the highest level of international football.

The club did not simply send players to the World Cup. A significant group remained involved until the very end and returned as champions.

The success now brings sporting prestige and a valuable financial return as well.

For Barça, the focus now shifts to club activities, especially the transfer window. The club are working to sign a new striker to replace Robert Lewandowski.

They are also being heavily linked with a move for Aymeric Laporte as a central defensive target, and it remains to be seen whether Deco can wrap up these deals in the coming weeks.
