Dani Olmo has emerged as one of Spain’s most influential players at the World Cup, but the FC Barcelona midfielder believes there is still one thing missing from his tournament: a goal.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Olmo spoke with confidence about his performances ahead of the final against Argentina, explaining that he feels comfortable in his role and has been lifted by the collective level around him.

He said:

“I feel very good, with a lot of confidence, very comfortable in those positions. The team is playing at a spectacular level.”

His importance was captured perfectly by one image from Spain’s semifinal victory over France. A photograph showing the Barca star surrounded by several French players quickly went viral, with some comparing it to the famous image of Andres Iniesta against Italy.

Olmo wants his own moment, not Iniesta’s

Olmo admitted that his immediate reaction to seeing the photograph was simple: “What a great photo.” He liked it enough to share it himself and said he would keep it as a memory of the tournament.

However, despite his excellent performances, Olmo knows he has yet to find the net. Asked what was missing from his World Cup, his answer was immediate:

“The goal, right? I’m missing the goal. Hopefully it comes in the final.”

That naturally raised the possibility of Olmo producing a moment similar to Iniesta’s legendary winner in the 2010 World Cup final.

The Barcelona midfielder, however, was careful not to put himself in the same category. He said:

“There is only one Andres Iniesta. I imagine myself being Dani Olmo of 2026.”

It is a response that says plenty about Olmo’s mentality. He is not chasing somebody else’s legacy. His priority is lifting the trophy, regardless of who scores the decisive goal.

Still, the possibility is impossible to ignore from a Barcelona perspective. Olmo has already become a central figure for Spain during this tournament, and one defining contribution against Argentina could turn an excellent World Cup into an unforgettable one.

Sixteen years after Iniesta delivered Spain’s greatest footballing moment, another Barca midfielder has the opportunity to write his own chapter. Olmo does not need to become the next Iniesta. One goal in the final could make sure everyone remembers Dani Olmo.
