Barcelona star Gavi has highlighted what he feels were double standards in La Liga’s officiating over the weekend.
This comes owing to respective incidents in the Madrid Derby, and Barcelona’s meeting with Sevilla.
In the latter, on Sunday night, the Blaugrana were of course reduced to 10 men during the 2nd-half.
This came after a dangerous challenge on the part of Fermín López in the middle of the park was sent to the VAR room, culminating in the youngster’s initial yellow card being upgraded to a red.
On the other hand, during Saturday’s meeting between Real Madrid and Atlético, Dani Ceballos was lucky to escape a dismissal of his own.
Missing the ball entirely in a tackle in midfield, Ceballos stood on the outstretched leg of Pablo Barrios, in what could easily have been deemed a red card offence.
Speaking to the media in the aftermath of his side’s 4-1 drubbing of Sevilla, the aforementioned Gavi therefore made use of the opportunity to highlight what he feels were inconsistencies in the weekend’s refereeing in Spain’s top-flight:
“In the Madrid derby, there was a clear incident (Dani Ceballos’ tackle on Barrios) that was very similar. Fermín López received a red card, but they could have easily given him a yellow instead.”
