Barcelona are weighing possible legal steps after Florentino Pérez used a Tuesday press conference, in which he called elections and said he would stand, to level accusations over the Negreira case.

The club said in a statement that their legal department is examining his statements and accusations, assessing next steps, and would set out positions and decisions when appropriate.

During the appearance, Pérez criticised journalists he claimed sought to appropriate Real Madrid and spoke of a supposed plot against him. He revived the Negreira affair, saying he has prepared over the past two years a dossier of more than 600 pages to send to UEFA, aiming to show Barcelona committed sporting corruption by paying for reports from José María Enríquez Negreira, formerly the number two in Spanish refereeing.

Pérez described the matter as an unresolved scandal without precedent in world football and urged UEFA to intervene. He alleged paid corruption over 20 years and said he was there to fight, not for referees to enrich themselves with Barcelona’s money, calling it the most serious corruption case in football history.

He also lamented that he has won only seven European Cups and seven league titles, which he said could have been 14, and claimed they were stolen. Pérez maintained that Barcelona always benefit and that Real Madrid members back him in his fight over the Negreira case.
