Barcelona forward Ferran Torres continues to build on what has quietly become one of the most impressive international careers among Spain’s current generation. 

The 25-year-old was once again decisive for La Roja as they eased past Georgia with a confident 4-0 win in their penultimate FIFA World Cup qualifying match. 

His performance did more than contribute to the victory, as it placed him among Spain’s all-time elite goalscorers.

Matching the greats

Before speaking to the media, Ferran had already written a new chapter in his international journey. 

With his goal against Georgia, the Barcelona attacker registered his 23rd senior international strike, a number significant enough to move him into Spain’s top ten highest scorers of all time. 

This latest achievement puts him level with two iconic names in Spanish football history: Sergio Ramos and Alfredo Di Stéfano.

Reflecting on the milestone, Ferran shared a moment of pride. With clear emotion, he said,

“Obviously, I knew it, it’s a dream to be among the top 10 goalscorers and equal legends like Di Stefano and Ramos. 

“You should never stop being ambitious, so let’s go for more goals and climb up that list,” he added.

Growing importance

His goal, Spain’s third of the night, was the product of smart movement inside the box, a trait that has become a trademark of the Barcelona winger. 

After a measured cross from Mikel Oyarzabal, Ferran arrived in the perfect position to finish. 

The strike, his 23rd for the national team, also puts him just three goals behind Emilio Butragueno, a legend he now has in sight as he climbs further up the scoring charts.

Ferran’s efficiency with the national team is particularly remarkable. With 23 goals in just 51 official appearances, his goals-per-game ratio stands among the best Spain has seen in modern football. 

This season alone, he has found the net nine times, seven goals for Barcelona and two for Spain, showing that his confidence is carrying across both club and country.
