It has been over three years since news broke regarding Barcelona and their relationship with Enriquez Negreira, the former vice-president of the Technical Committee of Referees (CTA). The Catalans made regular payments for referee reports, although there have been strong accusations – from Real Madrid in particular – that the money contributed towards sporting corruption.

Barcelona, who are hoping to win the rights to host the 2029 Champions League final, have been under investigation from the Spanish authorities for that exact allegation, but while the case is still ongoing, nothing has stuck as of yet. Nevertheless, Real Madrid have continued their fight, which led to them submitting a dossier to UEFA earlier this week in which they asked for their arch rivals to be stripped of titles.

Recently re-elected president Florentino Perez is the one that has led Real Madrid’s pursuit of action against Barcelona, but the Catalans have now had enough of his antics. As per MD, they will shortly take legal action against the 79-year-old.

Barcelona are far from happy with the accusations that have been levelled at them by Perez. Last month, the Real Madrid president claimed that “they have stolen “seven leagues had been stolen” from him by the Catalan club, and these comments have been considered unacceptable by bosses within the current La Liga champions.

Barcelona rule out action against Arbeloa

Perez may not have been the only Real Madrid personnel that Barcelona were to go after, with the report revealing that plans had been drawn up to also take legal action against Alvaro Arbeloa regarding his comments on the Negreira case. However, this will not longer happen after he was removed as head coach at the Bernabeu.

As a result, Perez will be the only target of Barcelona’s legal action. They are expected to file their complaint in the coming days/week, at which point the matter will be looked into by the relevant authorities.
