FC Barcelona’s academy continues to attract strong interest from clubs across Europe, and more departures from Barça Atletic are expected this summer as the club looks to ensure its brightest prospects continue their development at a higher competitive level.

And, according to SPORT, one of the players who could leave in the coming weeks is highly rated attacker Toni Fernandez.

The 17-year-old is attracting interest from several clubs, with Sevilla currently among the most serious contenders for his signature.

Sevilla preparing an offer

Sevilla are considering submitting a permanent transfer proposal that would include a buy-back clause in Barcelona’s favour, allowing the Catalan club to retain long-term control over one of its most promising academy graduates.

The deal is expected to be worth around €3 million, although negotiations could prove complicated given the strained relationship between the two clubs in recent years.

Interest from Sevilla is not new. Fernandez had already been identified as a priority target by the investment group led by Sergio Ramos during its attempt to acquire Sevilla.

Although that takeover never materialised, the club’s current sporting director, Jose Ignacio Navarro, has continued to closely monitor the youngster’s progress.

Initial contacts have already taken place between the clubs in an attempt to complete a deal before Barcelona begin pre-season.

No room for first-team minutes

Fernandez had hoped to establish himself within Hansi Flick’s first-team plans, but he is aware that breaking into Barcelona’s crowded attacking lineup will be extremely difficult.

While he is expected to participate in first-team pre-season preparations, regular competitive minutes are likely to be limited, making a move to a La Liga club an attractive option for his development.

Alaves have also shown interest in signing the young forward.

A highly-rated talent

Fernandez joined Barcelona’s academy in 2018 after arriving from Espanyol’s youth system and has consistently been regarded as one of La Masia’s standout attacking prospects.

He made his senior debut for Barcelona in the 2025 Copa del Rey against Barbastro, becoming the club’s second-youngest debutant ever at just 16 years and five months old.

Within the club, there remains widespread belief in his long-term potential. The winger is under contract until 2027, and there has been no renewal offer sent yet.

Therefore, current indications suggest that a move to a first-division club is becoming increasingly likely.

Many inside the club believe that the level of the Segunda Federacion is no longer sufficient for his development, making a move to a higher division an increasingly logical next step if Barcelona cannot guarantee him meaningful first-team opportunities.
