Barcelona unlikely to receive windfall as former winger’s departure talks stall | OneFootball

Barcelona do not have too many former academy assets from whose transfers they can expect windfalls, but one player they do have in their grip in such a capacity is Ez Abde.

The talented winger has made it big since leaving Catalonia and has turned up the heat with Real Betis so far. His performances, needless to say, have attracted interest from several top clubs.

Barcelona reserve 20% of any future sale of the player, and given that his release clause stands at €60 million, that could well translate to a sum of close to €12 million.

He has been linked to top clubs including Roma, but matters have again headed into a deadlock in recent times.

No move this summer

Earlier this week, Abde’s agent Alejandro Camano spoke to 365scores (h/t SPORT) where he was asked about the winger’s future and whether there could be a big-money move involved to a club overseas.

His agent, however, confirmed that the player is not considering an exit as matters stand and denied all links with Roma.

“Abde stays in Spain, there has never been anything with Roma.”

Needless to say, this comes as a blow for Barcelona who would have hoped to net some profit from the transaction.

Happy in Sevilla

The report also makes clear that Abde is very happy at Real Betis and that it would take a lot of financial resources to lure him out of his current club.

For starters, Los Verdiblancos demand a sum of €50 million as the baseline for Abde which is not far below his release clause of €60 million.

The player, however, has even steeper financial demands and is clear that only an irrefutable offer can make him accept a move. To set a benchmark, he demands that his current salary be doubled at his new club.

Roma’s decision to back out of the race is thus understandable, and it is also highly unlikely that any club will meet the aforementioned conditions this summer.

The player will thus stay in Seville and look to help the team as they return to the UEFA Champions League next season.
