Barcelona veteran’s contract renewal on the verge of being finalised – report | OneFootball

Wojciech Szczesny is officially under contract with FC Barcelona until 30 June, meaning just 10 days remain on his current deal.

However, his renewal until 2027 is not at risk and is well on track, with a verbal agreement having been reached weeks ago. The Polish goalkeeper, currently on holiday for almost a month, has already given the green light to a two-year extension.

Renewal to be finalised soon

According to Mundo Deportivo, both parties are now exchanging documents to finalise the deal based on the agreed terms.

Barcelona’s goalkeeping plans remain unchanged following the high-profile signing of Joan Garcia from Espanyol, who is set to become the new first-choice goalkeeper as part of the club’s generational rebuild.

As previously reported, both the sporting department and Hansi Flick – with full support from the board – have agreed that Garcia and Szczesny will form the goalkeeper pairing for the 2025-26 season, alongside a third option from the academy.

Since receiving the renewal offer, Szczesny has responded positively, having enjoyed a successful return to football after Marc-Andre ter Stegen suffered a serious knee injury last September.

Although he did not make his debut until 4 January in the Copa del Rey match against Barbastro (0–4), he finished the season with 30 official appearances and ranked ninth in total minutes played (2,726).

Now 35, the Pole feels physically and mentally strong enough to continue at Barcelona, despite receiving offers from other clubs to continue his career elsewhere.

He is also enthusiastic about returning to the renovated Spotify Camp Nou, where he previously played with Arsenal in 2011 and Roma in 2015.

Barcelona are very satisfied with Szczesny’s performance on the pitch, as well as his influence in a squad that is undergoing significant changes.

The veteran has brought experience and composure during demanding moments, while also contributing positively to the dressing room atmosphere. And his renewal will be signed imminently.
