The brass at La Liga giants Barcelona have green-lighted an assault on the signature of Espanyol star Joan García.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who have on Sunday provided an insight into the latest developments behind the scenes in Catalunya’s capital.

In something of a bolt from the blue, it has been confirmed by several sources that Barcelona are ready to bring in a new goalkeeper this summer.

Amid ongoing uncertainty surrounding the future of Wojciech Szczęsny, and concern when it comes to Marc-André ter Stegen’s long-term form, Deco and Hansi Flick have together decided that reinforcements between the posts are something of a must with a view to next season.

And one leading name has long come to the fore in the boardroom at the Camp Nou.

After a season which saw him emerge as one of the standout performers in all of Spanish football en route to helping Espanyol to top-flight survival, Joan García’s name has been circled in red.

So much so that, as per MD:

‘The Barcelona club plans to try to sign the Espanyol goalkeeper in the coming days.’
