kicker reports that Bayer Leverkusen aim to replace Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong this summer with three high-quality attacking players.
After the departure of Frimpong to Liverpool, and the expected departure of Wirtz in the same direction, Leverkusen have lost their best dribblers and want to replace them, but it will be difficult to find like-for-like replacements, especially when it comes to Wirtz.
Como’s Nico Paz is the hottest candidate to replace Wirtz. It was previously reported that Real Madrid will activate their buy-back clause on the player before selling him for a fee of around €30m.
When it comes to replacing Frimpong, Leverkusen are looking to Erik ten Hag’s former club, Manchester United. Alejandro Garnacho has been told that he can leave the club this summer, and die Werkself have already sounded out potential interest. Fellow winger Antony is also being considered for the position.
The problem for Leverkusen could be the price for either winger. United will want to recoup as much as possible of the €95m they spent on Antony, as well as receive a good fee for homegrown winger Garnacho. Then there are also question marks about whether the two are actually good enough for Leverkusen and their goals.
