It won’t be easy, but Bayer Leverkusen will hope to extend their seven-game unbeaten streak when they welcome reigning Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain to the BayArena on Tuesday.
After a disappointing start to the season, Erik ten Hag was sacked as head coach and replaced by Kasper Hjulmand, who remains unbeaten seven games into his tenure at Leverkusen.
Having climbed to fifth in the Bundesliga standings, Die Werkself most recently secured a dramatic 4-3 win over Mainz.
However, they are still searching for their first win in this season’s Champions League, having drawn their opening league-phase games against FC Copenhagen (2-2) and PSV (1-1).
PSG, meanwhile, are not leading Ligue 1 for once, sitting second, one point behind Olympique de Marseille after drawing their last two league games.
Luis Enrique’s side narrowly avoided defeat against Strasbourg on Friday, coming back from two goals down to draw 3-3.
In Europe, however, PSG have been in fine form, beating Atalanta 4-0 and Barcelona 2-1 in their first two group-stage matches.
The two sides have met twice before in the Champions League, during the 2013/14 round of 16, with PSG winning both games to advance 6-1 on aggregate.
Bayer Leverkusen have a number of injury concerns ahead of the clash, with Jarell Quansah, Lucas Vázquez, Nathan Tella, and Patrik Schick all doubtful after missing the weekend game against Mainz.
Exequiel Palacios (groin), Axel Tape (thigh), and Malik Tillman (thigh) are all confirmed absentees.
For PSG, Ousmane Dembélé is edging closer to a return from a hamstring strain, but a start is likely still too soon for the Frenchman.
Joao Neves and Fabian Ruiz are both doubtful, while Marquinhos is expected to miss out due to a thigh injury.
