Leon Goretzka is on the verge of leaving FC Bayern. According to the latest reports, the midfielder has defined a clear dream destination for himself
Leon Goretzka can look back on an eventful time at FC Bayern. After his sporting heyday under Hansi Flick, the midfielder’s role became increasingly complicated. Fluctuations in performance, changes of coach and a modified squad structure meant that the 30-year-old lost his former status as an undisputed key player. Although Goretzka fought back impressively after a difficult summer, doubts about his long-term future in Munich remain
According to a report in Mundo Deportivo, the German international is increasingly unhappy with the record champions‘ stance. While the club apparently does not see extending his contract, which expires in the summer, as a priority, Goretzka is already actively exploring the market, with a very specific dream destination apparently emerging

Contrary to recent reports, a move to the Premier League – for example to Tottenham Hotspur – is not a concrete issue. Instead, the midfielder is looking towards Spain. According to the report, Goretzka is dreaming of a reunion with Hansi Flick at FC Barcelona. He has already sent clear signals to his former Bayern coach that he could well imagine playing together again
Such a scenario would not be completely out of the blue. The Catalans were already looking at Goretzka last winter when Barcelona were struggling and Flick publicly called for reinforcements for the midfield. The Bayern professional also fits perfectly into the well-known requirements profile of the financially struggling Blaugrana: internationally experienced, immediately deployable and with an expiring contract
Whether a transfer is really realistic in the end remains to be seen, however. FC Barcelona’s midfield is strong in terms of both quantity and quality. Players such as Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, Gavi, Dani Olmo, Fermín López and Marc Casadó leave little room for other top-class players. Even Eric García is now deployed in midfield depending on the situation
For Goretzka, a move to Barcelona would therefore not only be a sporting decision, but also a strategic one. The prospect of working under Hansi Flick again could be the deciding factor – as could the prospect of leaving FC Bayern on a free transfer and starting a new chapter on the international stage.
