Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl believes Chelsea will be even more improved from their FIFA Club World Cup success this summer.
Chelsea and Bayern collide in their Champions League opener on Wednesday evening in Munich. It’s a rematch of the 2012 final and brings together two teams with big ambitions.
Chelsea made headlines in the summer after winning the FIFA Club World Cup in the USA. The West Londoners upset favourites Paris Saint-Germain to win the final 3-0 and Eberl was impressed by the performance of Enzo Maresca’s side.
He is expecting a high-quality contest in midweek and believes Chelsea will have got even better since that summer triumph.
“I’m really excited for Wednesday’s match. I think Chelsea deserved to win the [Club World Cup] final, with their incredible energy. They haven’t gotten any worse since then,” Eberl told BILD.
“On the contrary, they will of course have become even more stable. But this energy is precisely our game, too. That’s why I believe a very, very exciting, high-quality match awaits us on Wednesday.”
