Max Eberl’s future at FC Bayern remains uncertain. Although the sporting director’s contract runs through 2027, no decision on an extension has been made yet. Until recently, the supervisory board meeting at the end of August was seen as the likely time for a final decision. Now, however, that timeline could change.

As reported by SPORT1, another option is now being discussed within the club. According to the report, the supervisory board may deliberately refrain from making a final decision at this time and instead take its time until mid-November. A final decision on Eberl’s future would then be made shortly before the annual general meeting.

Eberl will likely be given more time

For Eberl, this would mean he would have several more months to convince the club’s leadership of his work. Following the signings of Nathaniel Brown and Ismael Saibari, the focus is now on player departures. Solutions are to be found in the coming weeks, particularly for Joao Palhinha, Sacha Boey, and Bryan Zaragoza.

Just last Wednesday, Eberl made it unmistakably clear that the three players have no future with the record champions. At the same time, he recently emphasized that the discussion surrounding his own position is not currently on his mind: “That’s not my job. My job is to do my job. I’ve been doing that for over two years now: building a roster that can achieve success, with players we can identify with, and playing a style of soccer that people enjoy watching.”

He continued: “That’s my job. And then a decision will be made about me. But that’s not what we’re here to discuss today.”

According to the report, the coming weeks will now be all the more important. If Eberl succeeds in removing the players slated for sale from the payroll and making further progress in squad planning, that could further strengthen his position.
