There are growing signs that Minjae Kim could be on the verge of leaving FC Bayern. The central defender has fallen behind on the pitch – and is apparently not averse to a move
Now, a top Italian club has once again brought the South Korean’s name into play. According to the Gazzetta dello Sport, Minjae Kim is considered to be AC Milan’s preferred solution to strengthen the defence in January. However, a loan deal with a subsequent purchase option or even a purchase obligation would be a prerequisite for a concrete move. A permanent transfer currently seems hardly feasible for financial reasons. Nevertheless, Kim is being discussed intensively in Milan, as he could immediately strengthen the Serie A club in sporting terms
An explosive aspect from Bayern’s point of view: according to the report, Kim is open to a return to Italy given his limited role in Munich. The defender has only been used irregularly this season under coach Vincent Kompany. Dayot Upamecano and Jonathan Tah have clearly moved ahead of him in the internal hierarchy, and Kim is often only a substitute in important games
It is precisely this sporting situation that is fuelling thoughts of a transfer. Kim is one of the better-paid professionals in the FC Bayern squad, while his current role does not match his own aspirations as a regular player. A temporary change of scenery could be a solution for both sides – in sporting and economic terms
However, a deal would be complicated. Bayern would have to agree to a loan, which would ideally open up the prospect of a later sale. Milan, on the other hand, are also exploring other, easier-to-implement options, as a deal with the record champions is considered complex

Other interested parties had already positioned themselves as possible buyers, including Fenerbahce Istanbul. The Turkish top club knows Kim well from his first European stint and is keeping a close eye on the situation. However, there have been no concrete talks so far
Irrespective of the developments in the winter, Bayern are already looking at possible successors. Names such as Marc Guéhi from Crystal Palace or Nico Schlotterbeck from Borussia Dortmund are circulating on Säbener Straße. Both would fit into the future profile of the Munich defence should there be a major shake-up in the summer.
