Even though the summer transfer window is still far away, Real Madrid are already drawing up plans to strengthen their squad for next season.
As has been widely reported, a new centre-back is at the top of the agenda for the current La Liga leaders, which is understandable given that David Alaba is likely to leave when his contract expires and Antonio Rudiger’s future is also far from certain.
Several players have been touted as potential targets for Real Madrid, with one of them being Bayern Munich and France defender Dayot Upamecano.
Upamecano, 27, has been at Bayern Munich since 2021, but could be playing his final season at the club as his contract expires on 30 June, 2026.
The Bundesliga champions have been working hard to renew his contract, but so far an agreement has not been reached.

However, in a recent interaction with the media, Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer issued an update on the defender’s future, which might not come as good news for Real Madrid.
“I’m optimistic to get a new deal done,” said Hainer, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.
“I’m hearing that he’s extremely happy at Bayern, he feels incredibly comfortable in the team, and he also feels incredibly comfortable with the coach,” he further added.
Hainer’s comments suggest that there is a wave of optimism within the Bayern Munich camp regarding Upamecano’s contract situation and future.
Talks over an extension have been ongoing for quite some time now without a breakthrough. But there appears to be a solid possibility that the 27-year-old Frenchman ends up signing a new deal, which would come as a blow for Real Madrid’s hopes of signing him.
The Merengues, though, have other options on their mind, with one of those being Upamecano’s compatriot Ibrahima Konate, who finds himself in a similar situation at Liverpool.
