Bayern Munich endured disappointment in Italy on Wednesday as Inter Milan knocked them out of the Champions League. The Italian club held Bayern for a 2-2 draw at San Siro and won the tie 3-2 on aggregate to progress to the semi-finals of the competition.
Along with hurting Bayern on the pitch, Inter Milan are also looking to jolt the Bavarian club’s transfer plans for the summer. According to transfer journalists Fabrizio Romano and Matteo Moretto, Inter are in advanced talks with Marseille for the signing of Luis Henrique.
The Italian club has also held talks with the Brazilian forward, who is keen on making a move to San Siro in the summer despite the interest from Bayern. Sky Sports in Germany has also confirmed Inter Milan’s interest in Henrique.
Die Roten have been heavily linked with Henrique in the past few weeks. Christoph Freund and Vincent Kompany were spotted in France watching the Brazilian forward play against Paris Saint-Germain. Bayern had reportedly held talks with Henrique's representatives to explore a summer deal.
The record Bundesliga champions want to sign two attacking players in the summer since Thomas Muller will be leaving in the summer. Kingsley Coman is also looking for a summer transfer, while Serge Gnabry is also facing an uncertain future in Munich.
The top target to strengthen the attack is Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen. The German attacker has been one of the standout players in Europe over the last two seasons. Wirtz may end up costing Bayern €150 million in the summer. Manchester City and Real Madrid are also interested in the 21-year-old forward. Die Roten have already started working on a potential deal.
Bayern’s majority of the transfer budget will be allocated for the signing of Wirtz. In such a scenario, it does look like they will have to put other transfer targets in the back seat, which may see them lose out on players like Luis Henrique.
It will be a pity if Bayern miss out on Henrique in the summer since he is one of the few bright young wingers who didn’t have a hefty price tag. The likes of Jamie Gittens, Tyler Dibbling, and Nico Williams are the other options for Die Roten for the wide positions. All three players may end up costing twice the fee Inter Milan may end up paying for Henrique.
