Bayern Munich have ruled out a permanent deal to sign Christopher Nkunku from Chelsea with the club focused on loan additions.
The Bundesliga champions want to add to their squad before the transfer deadline, with the signing of an additional forward the priority.
Bayern have been frustrated in attempts to sign Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart, while the club have also seen Thomas Muller, Mathys Tel, Kingsley Coman and Leroy Sane leave this summer. Jamal Musiala is also sidelined for an extended period with a serious leg injury.
Nkunku is a player of interest to Bayern, but director of sport Max Erbl has ruled out a permanent deal.
“The club have decided that we want to save money,” Erbl said, as per Sky Germany.
“The mandate is to bring in a player on loan. We have to accept that. We need to be creative and find solutions. But it’s not easy.”
Bayern’s stance could end their pursuit of Nkunku, with both the Frenchman and Chelsea preferring a permanent exit. RB Leipzig and Inter Milan are among the other sides interested in a deal for the 27-year-old.
Nkunku is keen to leave Chelsea after two disappointing seasons at Stamford Bridge. He has started just nine league games for the Blues due to injury and favour issues.
A return to the Bundesliga is an option, with Nkunku having thrived during a previous spell at RB Leipzig. He scored 70 goals in 172 games for Leipzig, winning both the Bundesliga’s Player of the Season and top-scorer awards.
