Vincent Kompany is not fazed by Munich’s weaknesses. After the clear home win against Freiburg, the Bayern coach had clear words and looked at the goals conceded by the record champions.

After the 6-2 win against SC Freiburg, the focus at FC Bayern was not only on the six goals, but also on the defence. For the second time in a row, Munich conceded two goals from set-pieces – a topic that is causing discussion ahead of the Champions League clash with FC Arsenal, who are particularly strong on set-pieces. At the post-match press conference, Vincent Kompany reacted calmly to the corresponding questions.

„I’m calm. We’ve made mistakes as a team in these phases. We shouldn’t hide, but show personality and character to defend them,“ explained the Bayern coach. „We’re also strong in attacking set-pieces, we scored from a corner today. We just have to stay calm and work on getting out of this phase and showing that we’re good in this area too. I’m confident that we’ll solve this.“

After an early double strike from Freiburg, the score was 0-2 after just 17 minutes – both times the record champions had not looked good from set-pieces. Bayern had also conceded two goals from set-pieces against Union Berlin.

However, the response was impressive. FCB equalised through Karl and Olise before the break, before an attacking firework display followed in the second half. Upamecano, Kane, Jackson and Olise again increased the score to 6:2 – including one of their own goals from a corner kick.

Jonathan Tah also looked back on the goals after the game: „Of course we weren’t happy with the situation after going 2-0 down. We knew we had to shift up a gear or two – and we did that quickly. Then we had the right energy. We know that we can turn a game around at any time.“

He continued: „We also have the team spirit and cohesion to do that. We have to be more alert as a team in set-piece situations. We’re really looking forward to the game at Arsenal; it’s something special. We’re going in with full conviction and want to get the three points. It’s going to be a very exciting game.“
