The cards could be reshuffled for FC Bayern in the poker game for Marc Guehi – and not in Munich’s favor

While it was recently reported that FC Barcelona had withdrawn from the race for the Crystal Palace centre-back, Real Madrid, of all clubs, have now moved into the spotlight. And the Whites appear to have a decisive advantage with the England international

Guehi has been a hot candidate on the transfer market for months now. A move away from London was already imminent last summer, with a move to Liverpool FC practically on the table. However, the deal ultimately fell through at short notice because Crystal Palace were unable to find a suitable replacement for the defender. In this context, rumours even circulated that coach Oliver Glasner had threatened to resign if Guehi was sold – which the Austrian later publicly denied

Now there are many indications that the next attempt could be more successful. According to the Spanish newspaper AS, those responsible at Real Madrid have already made contact with the player’s entourage. The aim of the talks is to sound out a free transfer next summer, a scenario that would be of great interest to many top clubs – including FC Bayern

Marc Guehi probably favors Real Madrid

Particularly explosive from Munich’s point of view: Guehi is said to clearly prefer a move to the Spanish capital if Real further substantiate their interest. The England international would apparently already have a club of choice in mind. As of 1 January, Guehi is officially in the last six months of his contract at Crystal Palace and is therefore free to negotiate with other clubs

This would be an unfavourable starting position for FC Bayern, who are said to have the 24-year-old on their radar as a potential reinforcement for their central defence. Liverpool are also still rumoured to be interested. But if Real Madrid get serious – and Guehi does indeed have a clear focus on the Whites – Munich could be left empty-handed in the transfer poker.
