Gareth Taylor has condemned the perpetrators of the racist abuse Bunny Shaw has received, calling it “horrendous”.
Shaw decided to pull out of Thursday’s League Cup game against Arsenal due to the abuse she received.
And Taylor said: “There’s no place for it (racism) in any walk of life. I’ve spoken to Bunny. I respectfully don’t want to share that. We’ll support Bunny in the right way.
“We really don’t see any place for this to be in any walk of life. Being racially abused is a horrendous situation for anyone to be in. We really care about Bunny in particular and all the players.
“It’s really difficult for me to analyse because who knows what goes on in that world and when you’re affected by things like that, it’s really difficult. I’ve not really had time to have a good conversation with her about it but she knows, and needs to know, that the whole club are behind her in this.”
Pep Guardiola was asked for his thoughts on the situation too, and said: “We would be lucky if this was just in world football. Unfortunately it’s in the whole entire world.
“Look to the politicians. What they say about this country is better than the other ones, or the other ones are not important, and all the people have to live [like this].
“Unfortunately it is all around the world, and football is another expression; not just for the fact that you are a woman, or you are a different skin colour and that makes you better. It’s difficult for me to understand that people can defend these stupid things.
“I support her, like I support all people who receive abuse in terms of racism, gender.”
