Craig Bellamy will warned Wales to respect the threat of Bosnia veteran Edin Dzeko when the teams meet in this month’s World Cup play-off.

Dzeko will lead Bosnia-Herzegovina into their play-off with Wales as the evergreen forward looks to reach the 2026 World Cup.

The forward will turn 40 later this month but remains a goal threat, having netted a record-breaking 72 goals in 146 caps for his country. Dzeko joined Bundesliga 2 side Schalke in January and has scored five times in seven games for the German side.

Bellamy, who narrowly missed out on playing alongside Dzeko at former club Manchester City, outlined the threat the forward will pose his team.

“He was never that speed player but his link-up play and game intelligence is always going to be high,” the Wales coach said.

“He’s still playing at a good level and he’s definitely a dangerous player. The idea for us would be to keep Bosnia away from our box because that’s when he comes into his own.

“The more time he’s outside the box the benefit it would be for us, so we have to keep him as high away from our goal as possible.”
