Chelsea are closing in on signing a top young left back to support Marc Cucurella.
Jorrel Hato is close to completing a move – this morning TeamTalk reported that personal terms had been agreed, and that all that remained was to bridge the €10m gap in valuations between what Ajax want and what Chelsea want to pay.
Jorrel Hato to Chelsea almost done says Ben Jacobs in a Tweet.
It looks as though that gap has already been closed – the reliable Ben Jacobs, who is well connected at Chelsea, says that the Blue are “hoping to finalise” the deal “this week.”
“Deal advanced and potentially agreed in the next 24-48 hours,” the journalist continued.
There doesn’t seem to be any reason that might not be the case. From all accounts most things are already agreed, and it’s just the final details left to go on this deal.
We’re sure the fee will end up being somewhere between what the two sides want, with add-ons and bonuses always making it pretty easy to split the difference in these matters.
Once Hato is wrapped up, with his countryman Xavi Simons looking set to follow soon after, Chelsea will have strengthened this team in all the key areas. There will be plenty who wish that the summer could be capped off with a bid for a top goalkeeper, but it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen.
Still, it will mean a summer where we’ve made some really good additions and left ourselves looking better and deeper than last season.
There are still some big sales to be made, but there’s plenty of time to work on them now, with the bulk of our buying complete. A very impressive summer all round.
