Ben Old named in New Zealand World Cup squad | OneFootball

Ben Old has been named in New Zealand’s squad for the World Cup in the United States, with the Saint-Étienne left-back included as expected. However, head coach Darren Bazeley continues to list him among the All Whites’ forwards.

According to Le Progres, the time difference meant New Zealand announced their group on Thursday morning, while Didier Deschamps is due to reveal France’s 26 later in the evening.

Old has produced a strong campaign since Eirik Horneland moved him to left-back in December, a versatility that could prove useful to Bazeley.

New Zealand will face Iran, Egypt and Belgium in the group stage, and go into the tournament aiming to reach the last 16 for the first time in their history.

Along the way Old and his team-mates could also come up against Lucas Stassin, who still hopes to travel to the United States in June.
