According to Glorioso 1904, Benfica have ended their pursuit of Lorenzo Lucca after a decisive meeting with Napoli failed to produce an agreement. The Portuguese club judged the numbers on the table to be excessive.
Napoli were seeking a 37 million euros package, two million as a loan fee and a 35 million obligatory purchase at season’s end. Benfica withdrew from talks rather than proceed on those terms.
While José Mourinho admired the striker’s physical and technical profile, financial prudence prevailed. The focus now shifts to alternative options.
Clayton of Rio Ave had been tracked, but that scenario has grown complicated. Negotiations for André Luiz are proving difficult and an impasse with the Vila do Conde club could keep the Brazilian forward from joining Benfica, prompting urgent fresh scouting.
This season with Napoli, Lucca, valued at 25 million euros, has made 21 appearances, 15 in Serie A, four in the Champions League, one in the Supercoppa and one in the Coppa Italia. Across 584 minutes he has scored two goals, and his contract runs until June 2028.
