The Caso dos Emails has taken a fresh twist after Benfica demanded Porto be punished and lodged a complaint with the Portuguese FA, drawing an immediate response from their rivals.
Record reports that Benfica filed their complaint with the Conselho de Disciplina of the Federação Portuguesa de Futebol on Friday 13 March, and that a disciplinary case was opened on Thursday 19 March for review by the Comissão de Instrutores of Liga Portugal.
In a statement on Friday 20 March, Benfica set out the development after the process had recently concluded.
Porto countered, calling the timing opportune and pointing to a preliminary hearing in case no. 5340/17.7T9LSB, due to start on Monday at the Tribunal Central de Instrução Criminal in Lisbon.
In the same note, Porto highlighted that Benfica stands accused by the Ministério Público of active corruption and tax fraud, linked to an alleged scheme to manipulate sporting results, an investigation it traced to the disclosure of the emails.
