Benfica, Porto and Sporting are the only Portuguese clubs in global social media rankings, yet none make the world’s top 50 despite year-on-year gains.

According to the CIES Football Observatory, which tracks followers across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and X, Real Madrid top the table with 487.6 million, ahead of Barcelona on 441.8 million and Manchester United on 238.6 million.

Benfica sit 57th worldwide with 13 million followers, up 6.1 percent or 0.7 million. Porto are 62nd on 12.1 million, a rise of 5.2 percent or 0.6 million. Sporting place 65th with 11.7 million, up 3.2 percent or 0.4 million.

Bayern Munich recorded the largest annual growth, adding 16.1 million followers, an increase of 11 percent.

Flamengo and Al Nassr, in 15th and 16th respectively, are the first non-European clubs on the list. Al Nassr are home to Ronaldo, João Félix and Jorge Jesus.
