According to Sacha Tavolieri, Benfica are the latest side to show interest in Union St Gilloise winger Anan Khalaili. The Israeli international was also recently scouted by Newcastle United, who are said to be one of the other clubs interested in signing the winger this summer. It is unsurprising that Khalaili is of interest to both Benfica and Newcastle Untied given how well he has played this season, and Newcastle United have already seen the player play first hand during the Champions League.
Khalaili joined Union in 2024 after a breakout season with Maccabi Haifa. In 52 games for the Israeli club, the now 21-year-old scored 15 goals and provided six assists. Last season he played 47 games for Union as they won their first title in over 100 years. During that season, Khalaili scored twice and provided four assists. So far this season the winger has played 38 games, scoring five goals and providing one assist. Three of these five goals came during the sides debut Champions League campaign.
While the numbers may not jump out, Khalaili certainly passes the eye test and at such a young age has plenty of potential to grow. Union spent a far amount of money to sign him two seasons ago so would certainly be looking to make a decent profit on any potential sale, especially if clubs like Benfica and Newcastle United are interested.
