Benfica’s third-place finish in Liga Portugal Betclic has cost them a Champions League berth next season, cutting income but easing a clause tied to Rafa Silva.

According to Fanatik, the club will not have to pay about two million euros to Besiktas, a bonus that depended on Champions League qualification.

Rafa Silva, who turned 33 on Sunday, 17 May, cost around five million euros when he arrived from Besiktas. That add-on will not be triggered without Champions League football.

The absence from Europe’s top competition is set to hit Benfica’s 2026/27 revenues. They earned roughly 53.1 million euros from the Champions League this season. Next year, even by winning the Europa League, returns would be near 32.66 million euros.

In 2025/26, Rafa Silva, valued at six million euros, made 18 competitive outings for Benfica, 16 in Liga Portugal Betclic and two in the Champions League, totalling 1,084 minutes and six goals.
