Benfica ‘to opt for’ Marco Silva, Sérgio Conceição not considered | OneFootball

According to Glorioso 1904, Rui Costa will not turn to Sérgio Conceição for Benfica’s head coach job, with Marco Silva the choice.

The 51-year-old’s name gathered pace after his departure from Al-Ittihad, and he had been viewed as a potential successor to José Mourinho, who is leaving for Real Madrid.

An agreement with Marco Silva, Conceição’s strong emotional bond with Porto and unease among Benfica supporters make such a move practically impossible.

During his time at Porto he won three league titles, 2017/2018, 2019/2020 and 2021/2022, plus four Portuguese Cups, 2019/2020, 2021/2022, 2022/2023 and 2023/2024. He also claimed one League Cup in 2022/2023 and three Super Cups in 2018, 2020 and 2022.

His managerial career has also included Olhanense, Académica, Braga, Vitória de Guimarães, Nantes, Milan and Al-Ittihad. As a player, he was a Portugal team-mate of Rui Costa at Euro 2000 and the 2002 World Cup.
