Benjamin Fredrick previews Brentford B v Bournemouth U21s | OneFootball

Benjamin Fredrick says “it is a must win game” as Brentford B take on Bournemouth Under-21s in the Premier League Cup on Saturday. The game will be played in front of fans at Wheatsheaf Park and kick-off is scheduled for 12pm.

Tickets are available to purchase online as Brentford B play their third PL cup game of Group I.

The B team saw their first PL Cup game end in a 6-3 defeat against Chelsea U21s and they were narrowly defeated by Derby County in their second game, losing 1-0.

Fredrick stated that it is now time for the players to show the form in the league in their cup matches.

“It has been difficult because we have played well in both our games in this competition. There are just little details that I think as a team we know we can do better,” he said.

“We have had so many injuries over the course of the season so it feels good to be in a place where the group is getting back together properly.

“We know what Bournemouth are capable of but we also know what we can do as a team and the plan will be to make sure we listen to the coaches and then execute the plan.

“We have to be clinical and take our chances but just as important is us defending well as a team. I am grateful to be playing as much as I am, as I want to continue giving my best and I can only show that on the pitch."

Benjamin Fredrick looking to improve

Since returning from an injury in pre-season, Benjamin Fredrick has been a key feature in Neil MacFarlane’s side.

The defender has been utilised as a right-back and also on the right side of a back three this season, impressing in both those positions.

Fredrick says that despite his defensive work being what he is recognised for, he wants to be more of a positive contributor at the other end of the pitch.

“It is possible for me to improve in the attacking area of the pitch," he said.

"The coaches have helped me a lot in the passing department and now I believe I am ready to possibly score one or two more goals as it will definitely help the team having defenders who can defend but every now and again score too.

“I just want to continue developing, however that might look like, I think it is important for me to continue showing that I have a number of abilities.”

Last time out

Brentford romped to a 4-1 victory against London rivals QPR at Wheatsheaf Park.

A blistering start with more than 300 fans in attendance saw Ashley Hay open the scoring.

Two minutes later, Iwan Morgan scored a sensational lob to provide the home side with their second of the game. Hay scored two more goals either side of a QPR goal in what was a comfortable victory.

The young Bees have now won three league games on the bounce with the other two victories coming against Ipswich Town and Charlton Athletic.

Neil MacFarlane’s side will be looking to transfer this form into Saturday’s cup game.

Bournemouth have three points after two games in Group I.

Their first game was a 3-2 victory against Derby County and their second was a 4-1 loss at home at the hands of Chelsea U21s.
