Bernardo Silva and Omar Marmoush have been in contact with former Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan amid interest from Galatasaray, as per reports.
Gundogan left City as a free agent last summer as director of football Hugo Viana replaced Txiki Begiristain to revamp the first-team ranks after a disappointing 2024-25 season for the Blues.
Silva recently parted ways with Manchester City as a free agent after an emotional departure at the Etihad Stadium on their final Premier League match of the 2025-26 season on May 24, drawing the curtains on an illustrious nine-year journey at the club.
Premier League giant joins race to sign Bernardo Silva – Barcelona and Atletico Madrid also interested
While the Portuguese midfielder has been reported to be on the radar of Galatasaray over a potential transfer for the past few months, reports now suggest that the Super Lig side are also interested in acquiring Marmoush’s signature this summer.
According to a report by Sabah, Silva and Marmoush have contacted former Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan to enquire about Galatasaray and the Turkish top flight.
The German midfielder revealed receiving calls from his former teammates at Manchester City. “Some of my former teammates called me and asked questions about the club and the league but I don’t want to give names,” Gundogan told Sabah, as quoted by Sport Witness.
The aforementioned report claims that the players are Marmoush and Silva, with the Egyptian forward being the one to reach out to Gundogan ‘directly’ and ‘receive information’ about the current Super Lig champions.
As mentioned earlier, Galatasaray’s interest in Silva is not new, with a report in March suggesting that the Istanbul-based club have prepared a €15 million‑per‑year offer for the outgoing Manchester City captain.
However, as anticipated for a player of his stature, Galatasaray are not the only club keen on securing his services on a free transfer.

Atletico Madrid and Juventus have been heavily linked to make a move for the 31-year-old, who leaves Manchester City as one of the club’s most decorated players, winning 20 major trophies, including six Premier League titles and one UEFA Champions League title.
Barcelona and AC Milan are also admirers of the Benfica academy graduate, who is reportedly looking to continue his career competing in Europe next term.
Marmoush joined Manchester City from Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt on a four-and-a-half-year deal in January 2025.
Since his arrival at the Etihad Stadium, the 27-year-old started in 20 out of the 25 appearances he made across competitions for City in the second half of the 2024-25 campaign, scoring eight goals and providing three assists.
However, there was a significant decrease in his game-time in the recent season, especially in the Premier League, where he made only eight starts in 21 appearances.
Overall, the Manchester City number seven registered eight goals and three assists in 36 games across competitions for the Blues this term – albeit a very good minutes per goal contribution return by all accounts.

The former Wolfsburg star’s lack of minutes on the pitch has led to speculations of him considering a move away from the Premier League giants.
Along with interest from Galatasaray, Marmoush has also been linked with a move to Barcelona, who are reportedly considering him as a possible replacement for Robert Lewandowski.
His possible move to Turkey is said to be dependent on whether Galatasaray decide to retain Mauro Icardi, whose contract is set to expire this summer.
While the forward could consider continuing at Manchester City, especially with the departure of Pep Guardiola and a new head coach taking charge, his reported enquiry to Gundogan about Galatasaray hints at a possible transfer.
With about three more years left on his contract with the Citizens, it remains to be seen what’s next for Marmoush in the upcoming campaign.
