Bernardo Silva has confirmed he will leave Manchester City when his contract expires, ending nine seasons and 20 trophies under Pep Guardiola, who is also departing.

The player said in a club video that he departs as a City supporter, having arrived from Portugal as a Benfica fan, and that he will back the club for life.

Signed from Monaco in 2017, the 31-year-old said it is time for younger players to get opportunities and for him to move closer to his family after years apart.

He described Guardiola’s Barcelona sides as formative inspiration during his Benfica youth, and said becoming the player to feature most under him felt particularly special.

The Portugal international is thought to interest Atletico Madrid.
