Bernardo Silva opens up on joining Real Madrid and working with Mourinho | OneFootball

Another Real Madrid summer signing joined Jose Mourinho in training at Valdebebas at the start of the fourth week of training, namely, Bernardo Silva. The experienced Portuguese playmaker had been announced as their player by the Merengues at the start of Portugal’s World Cup campaign, but he joined with the team late because he reached up to the Round of 32 with his national team, and then spent three weeks of holidays.

Yesterday, he reported at the Real Madrid training facilities, undertook his medical tests, met his new teammates and manager, and then participated in the day’s training session.

As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the midfielder also talked to the club’s media and expressed his happiness at having joined the Spanish club. The playmaker expressed his desire to help the club get back to winning ways:

“It is something very special, and I am very happy to be here. There is no need to talk about this club because its history speaks for itself… I am very happy to begin this new chapter and to try to help this team keep winning, because that is what it knows how to do. I am just another player here to help and to try to continue this wonderful club’s winning tradition.”

Similarly, Silva also talked highly of his new coach, Jose Mourinho:

“We have been rivals on a few occasions, and now we are on the same team. He is a coach who means a great deal to Portuguese football. Ever since I was a child, we followed his teams closely, and he has always taken the name of Portugal to the highest level. I am very happy to start working with him and learning from him.”

The midfielder also opened up on what he is like as a player:

“I am a player who is built on hard work and on trying to make those around me better. I always try to be available in different positions to help the team. I can adapt to many roles, and I will be ready for whatever Real Madrid need.”

The Portuguese playmaker was clear that playing for Los Blancos was an irresistible opportunity:

“When Real Madrid came calling, it was impossible to say no, and I did not think twice… After playing against Real Madrid so many times, you realise how great the club is and how imposing the Santiago Bernabéu is. Being close to my family, very close to Portugal, and in a very similar culture helps. But the dream of playing for the greatest club in the history of football is a privilege.”

Although the last season, and even the World Cup, saw Bernardo Silva far from his best level, there is still no doubt about the quality that the Portuguese playmaker offers. He has been playing at the highest level for many years now, and at 31 years of age, should still have the ability to play at the highest level for several more years.

Hopefully, Jose Mourinho will be able to get him back to his best level and Silva will be able to help Real Madrid get back to winning ways from the next season.
