Guido Rodríguez has been one of Valencia’s few bright spots this season. His January agreement runs only until 30 June and the club are trying to extend it amid growing competition.

According to Superdeporte, Villarreal and Real Betis sent staff to the Martínez Valero on Saturday to assess the 32-year-old. He celebrated his birthday the following day.

Fiorentina also monitored Eray Cömert, the Swiss defender out of contract this summer and on their radar for months. Valencia are weighing that situation given a looming glut of centre-backs in Carlos Corberán’s squad.

Both Manuel Pellegrini’s Betis and Villarreal want a balancing midfielder, and Guido fits that brief. He spent four seasons with Betis before joining West Ham in summer 2024. His abrupt August exit irked supporters.

For Villarreal, Guido is one option in a planned midfield overhaul. The gamble on Thomas Partey did not come off, and Roig Negueroles is working to add depth in that area for another demanding campaign.

Valencia’s strongest card is emotional, since financially and sportingly they trail Betis and Villarreal. Both sit in European places, with Villarreal 15 points clear with seven games left and their Champions spot in effect secured. Betis could also make the Champions League if Spain earns an extra slot or if Pellegrini’s side win the Europa League, where they are in the quarter-finals.

Guido’s West Ham stint under Nuno Espírito Santo brought only 177 minutes across 22 league matchdays, but his displays in Valencia are easing doubts, even if Elche was not his best outing. His free-agent status makes him highly attractive, while he and his family feel settled in the city.
