Enzo Maresca is a workaholic, and must be almost as exhausted as his players after a gruelling 9 month season.

Still, there’s no rest for anyone in football these days, so he’s straight off to the next challenge – the Club World Cup in the USA.

He gave a really interesting interview to the club’s official website about the season just gone and the tournament ahead.

Some coaches will be frustrated by the extra games, but for Maresca it’s another chance to build his CV and get this group used to winning against top sides. It gives him an opportunity to get to work with his new players, and to take on some of the best teams in the league before our return to the Champions League later this year.

“We had a few days off after the Conference League final. But then we returned and we started to prepare for this competition. It was so quick [the turnaround] and we needed to be ready,” Maresca explained.

“The good thing is that we finished the Premier League and the Conference League in the way we all wanted, so now we have arrived with a good feeling and are fully focused on this competition.”

Maresca picks out 5 players he has improved

As well as the team, Maresca has been focused on improving individuals, and he pointed to 5 in particular who he thought had got better on his watch:

“I’ve said many times that you can improve the team if you improve players. I have seen since we started that the players are improving, and that is the most important thing. Levi Colwill, Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, Marc Cucurella, Noni Madueke, so many of these players are getting better and better.”
