Ultra-clinical after the break, after having gone a goal down to AJA in the first half, the Rouge et Blanc turned the tide to win for the second time in a row at the Stade Louis-II (4-2).

It’s a second win in a row in Ligue 1 and it feels great! Dominant and carried by a remarkable Mika Biereth, scorer of a hat trick, AS Monaco picked up three important points against AJ Auxerre (4-2). It was a victory obtained under the eyes of President Dmitry Rybolovlev, who was present at the Stade Louis-II, which allows the club from the Principality to consolidate their place on the podium. The context 📅

Victorious and very convincing in the first half last weekend against Stade Rennais (3-2), the Rouge et Blanc wanted to continue their good form in the league. A visit from AJ Auxerre should therefore allow them to go and get the three points again, especially since the Burgundians had only won one of their last 12 away games in the top flight, but our Monégasques had to beware of their efficiency in transition!

We have a lot of respect for Auxerre, who pulled off a big win in Marseille (1-3), before drawing Lille against recently (0-0), and who have good players like Gaëtan Perrin, Hamed Junior Traoré and Lassine Sinayoko who can be dangerous. But at home, in front of our fans, we want to win!

The XI 👥

To start this match, Adi Hütter decided to rotate only slightly, to play the most competitive eleven possible. We noted the return to the starting line-up of Mika Biereth, who is now eligible to play in Europe. For the rest of the team, the Monegasque technician trusted the team which started against Inter Milan Wednesday.

The scenario 🎞

The match started quietly, but after a quarter of an hour the first chance came on a deep run by Gaëtan Perrin, whose goal was disallowed for offside (15′). The Rouge et Blanc struggled to get themselves strong chances (17′, 22′), while the former Monégasque Han-Noah Massengo, missed with a headed effort (26′). We were then forced to rely on set pieces to break the game open.

Finding the top corner!

And on yet another corner taken by Lamine Camara, it was vice-captain Thilo Kehrer who was on the lookout to fire the ball into the top corner with his left foot (1-0, 35′)! It was the fourth goal in Ligue 1 for our vice-captain.

But the joy was short-lived, as after some good work by Owusu, Sinaly Diomandé also sent a powerful shot into the top corner (1-1, 38′). AJA pushed and even showed themselves to be dangerous through Hamed Junior Traoré (44′, 45+3′) and Perrin (44′), but Radoslaw Majecki was vigilant.

A twist of fate just before halftime

The Polish goalkeeper was even heroic on his line to stop a penalty obtained and taken by Jubal (45 + 5′). But Mr. Kherradji asked the Brazilian to retake it, following the encroachment of a player in the area, and the latter converted at the second time of asking (1-2, 45 + 7′). It was a difficult blow that forced the Rouge et Blanc manager to make three changes, bringing on Caio Henrique, Magassa and Embolo.

Biereth, three of a kind!

And the effect was immediate, since on a cutback from Vanderson, the Swiss striker perfectly played in Mika Biereth who finished from close range (2-2, 57′)! It was nearly an exact copy of his goal scored against Rennes, for his second in the top flight.

This was just before he scored the third with a volley, on a lovely cross from Caio Henrique from the left (3-2, 63′)! The match then became something truly special as the Dane had an eight-minute hat-trick following some very good work by… Breel Embolo (4-2, 65′)!

A vital win and a secure spot in third place!

It was a second assist of the day for him, and his fourth already in Ligue 1. Christophe Pelissier then decides to make a quadruple change. It almost paid off, as Ado Onaiwu grazed the crossbar with a powerful shot from a tight angle (85′).

Conversely, Embolo almost scored a fifth (86th), before Traoré had a last opportunity that Radeck knocked away (95′). AS Monaco therefore won in stunning fashion against AJA (4-2), to consolidate 3rd place. DAGHE MUNEGU!!! 🇲🇨
