The England international joined the Eagles in February 2024, and he has quickly established himself as not only a key player for Palace, but as one of the top midfielders in the country.

Wharton’s performances were crucial to Palace winning the FA Cup for the first time in their history, and he will expect to be part of Thomas Tuchel’s Three Lions’ squad in the 2026 World Cup.

Adam Wharton transfer latest as Liverpool, Man Utd and Man City chase midfielder

Therefore, it’s no surprise that the 21-year-old has been linked with a move away from the Londoners, with Liverpool, Man United and Man City among the clubs to have been credited with an interest in Wharton in the past.

So far, Palace have managed to retain the exciting youngster, and they won’t be overly concerned about losing Wharton next month given how much Oliver Glasner’s side have to play for this season.

Yet, it seems it could be a different story in the summer, as journalist Alan Nixon has revealed that Palace will not stand in Wharton’s way if a big offer is tabled.

He explains that Wharton would be open to testing himself in the Champions League if a club at that level comes in, whilst Palace recognise that a huge offer could help them improve the squad as a whole - which includes trying to tie down Jean-Phillipe Mateta on a new contract.

It’s unclear what sort of fee would be required to do a deal with Palace, but it’s certain to be a huge profit on the initial £18m, and £4m in add-ons, that they paid to sign the player from Blackburn.

Adam Wharton sale could have major benefits for Blackburn Rovers

To their credit, those involved in Wharton’s sale at Ewood Park ensured that a sell-on clause was part of the agreement, so all connected to the Championship club will have an eye on any future developments.

It has been reported that Rovers are entitled to 15% of any profit that is made on a sale, so it could turn out to be a significant sum.

For example, if Wharton fetched around £60m in the summer, which may seem a conservative valuation, Blackburn would receive around £6m from the near £40m profit that Palace would make in that scenario.

It will certainly be a major boost for Rovers and boss Valerien Ismael, as we know the club are restricted in what they can do in the market, so this could help them bring in a player or two.

Of course, it’s a long way off at the moment, but given Wharton’s ability, it seems a matter of time before that windfall does come Blackburn’s way, and all involved in the journey of the midfielder will be proud of the player he has turned out to be, and you get the feeling there is a lot more to come from Wharton in his career.
